- Watch the trailer for one of the most celebrated graphic novel of all times - Watchmen The Movie. Screening is scheduled to be out in March 2009. On a side note, I am loving the dark and emo soundtrack.
- THE NEXT BIG THING: Christmas!!
Where? Located in Taman Mayang Jaya. Just roughly a stone's throw from Williams. Yes, the one that everybody hates and loves at the same time. Why? Pretty quite place and we thought we might give it a try - even the calmest seas can cook up the deadliest storms.
If you have heard about the famous Cheow Yang at SS2, then you could be forgiven for thinking that this is yet another spin-off restaurant from those wanting to grab a piece of the crumb that has fallen off the table.
I was wondering what could they possibly serve here? by the looks of the menu and layout...it seems like the Tai Chow type.
What was recommend here by friends were the Bak Kut Teh and the Braised Fish Head. Yes, Bak Kut Teh! Now who would've guess it was that? Prices were affordable and not outrageously expensive - you get to choose which size you want too. We decided to test out the 2 recommended dish - kinda like house speciality, ya know?
Now what is a Bak Kut Teh meal without Yow Char Kuey? Pretty crispy and fresh from the frying pan as well - if only I could have more. But my mother said it was bad for health - oh well, I guess mothers know what is best. Don't worry, one plate very cheap only...although not as cheap as the ones you get straight from market.
The Braised Fish Head was a safehaven for all those seeking refuge from chicken/pork/whatsover. Okay, perhaps a little exaggerated, but it does taste pretty decent. I love the sauce as I think it goes well with my rice and the texture of the fish meat was pretty good as well.
Surprisingly, 3 people can eat one person's share as it comes in a rather decent amount. Of course you'd have to order other dishes as well.
As for the Bak Kut Teh, it taste delicious as well - not too oily like those found in Klang or wherever it is people love to eat. Only issue was the amount of fat they had on the meat. To the health-conscious, it might actually look like a horror movie. But don't worry, it is easily removable with a spoon and a fork.
Everything above cost about RM25.
Verdict! Satisfaction - 6.8/10 Quality - 6.9/10 Quantity - 7/10 Value for money - 6.5/10 Service - 6.5/10
Will I return? Realisticly, only with parents and not with friends.
This is a Nikon bag. It is very big and durable. Nikon is always associated with quality.
Inside this Nikon plastic bag, there is another bag - a CANON bag. This is not a genuine dSLR bag, but just a temporary replacement before I go pr0 on equipments (meaning a bigger bag is required).
And inside this CANON bag is a...*drumrolls*...
BRAND NEW, ASS SPANKING, MOTHER LOVING, KICKASS SONY A200 DSLR!
Now this is definitely the best of 3 worlds, eh? Now I can act like a chameleon and attend whichever seminar I want without any bouncers stopping me.
Yes, I've finally decided to go for SONY as I felt it provided the best overall punch. Instead of getting the A300 with the LiveView, I decided to downgrade to the A200 (without LiveView) and splash a little more on accessories and extended 2 years warranty.
Okay, perhaps it may not be the best dSLR around - but its still my baby. Kinda like getting a new girlfriend, ya know?
Now that I've bought my camera from Tarita @ Sungai Wang, I highly recommend the place to you guys if any of you are interested in buying one yourself. I have already scouted around town and this place provided the best deals, service and of course, laughter.
Roy was the man. He was very accomodating, friendly and full of jokes. He even allowed us to test all kinds of lens and camera there - now that simply rocks! His prices beats most of the nearest competitors by a stone's throw milestone.
I got my A200 with body + kit lens (RM1390), Hoya lens filter + SONY 133x 4GB CF card, 20Mps + screen protector + Canon bag (RM270), and SONY 2 years extended warranty (RM150). That brings us to a total of RM1810! A very good deal indeed. Most of all, I like Roy - not because I'm gay, but because he makes me happy. A serviceman that knows how to make his customers happy is a good one.
Here are some test shots I took with my new dSLR - first day of playing with it.
1. My cactus - a close up shot to demonstrate the macro's capability of the kit lens.
2. My cat, of course. Lazy as ever.
3. A random dragonfly (I think) resting on a thin wire which I use to hang my clothes.
4. More upclose shots of plants in my garden. I didn't even knew these existed before.
5. Lastly, throwing a pebble into a puddle of water.
This could be a beginning of a beautiful friendship.
There are many types of creative shots you can do with your camera. If your camera has 'Manual' mode, all the better!
Here are some ideas - they're not the most perfect shots in the world, but they'll do. 1. Translucent liquid paper
Yes, you can now make a ghostly apparition of your liquid paper! Currently only available in red. How? Very easy, just set your shutter speed to be slower, about 2.5 sec should be enough - any slower and you risk overexposure of your shots. After that, simply move your liquid paper from one spot to another while the shutter is open.
2. Multiple liquid paper
Same technique, just set an even slower shutter speed move it faster across different points.
3. Light sculpture - writing in the air
Remember the fireworks you used to play last time as a kid, called 'Sparkles'? If you didn't already know, you can create, or 'draw' images using light sources in a very dark room. How? Set shutter speed to slowest possible, like 15 sec, and simply draw as much as you can in the time frame!
4. Home Sweet Home
Similar technique, just that it requires more skill to draw a more complicated picture. I'm planning to draw a city soon! Will post results when I'm done.
COLDPLAY is an awesome band. Definitely the best of their generation. That would make them the best in the world as of RIGHT NOW. My second most favourite band of all time behind U2. Just like any great band, they have MANY great songs. Here I'm going to try and list five of the best Coldplay songs that are not traditional favourites, probably because they are not singles. I will try to represent all four Coldplay albums and the non-album songs. For non-Coldplay fans, sample some riches from the treasure trove of Chris Martin and co!
1. LOST!
OK. I have to make ONE exception to my non-singles rule. LOST! My favourite Coldplay song of the moment and IMHO the best song on Viva La Vida! Most people love the title track. I do as well, but this song is so non-Coldplay awesome! The most upbeat Coldplay song ever, it is handclap driven with a catchy hook. Amazing! There are also several versions to this song. The first version I heard was the EP piano version featuring Chris Martin and his piano which feels so different from the album version. The handclaps and driving beat change it into a whole new song with a Coldplay core, i.e. Martin and his piano. I just found out that there are several versions to the song! The album version. The aforementioned piano version and a remix of the album version featuring none other than the main man in the rapping circle, Jay-Z! It takes some getting used to. I could never have imagined a rapper rapping on a Coldplay song. But Lost! really breaks so many boundaries, its uncanny.
"Just because I'm losing, doesn't mean I've lost".
2. Moses
Moses is a non-album song which I really like. Chris Martin is fascinated with Christianity although I don't think he is a believer. His mom is a stonge Catholic. If you have yet to realize, he frequently uses Biblical imagery and allusions to the Christian faith. He does that a lot in Viva. Although not exactly like Bono for U2, Martin's use of Biblical imagery can be interesting at times although it does not inspire people to examine the Christian faith much. In Moses, Martin compares the girl's power over him to Moses' power over the Red Sea.
"Like moses has power over sea, So you've got power over me".
3. Til Kingdom Come
Til Kingdom Come is probably the sweetest Coldplay love song ever. (NOTE: Remember what I said about allusions to Christianity). Its a hidden track on X&Y.
Chorus:
For you, I'd wait 'til kingdom come.
Until my day, my day is done.
And say you'll come, and set me free,
Just say you'll wait, you'll wait for me.
The man who waits forever for his love. How wonderful (or naive).
4. Everything's Not Lost
From their debut album Parachutes, Everything's Not Lost is a song of hope, encouraging people to not give up even though things seem bleak. I love the extended ending. Just like The Scientist where Martin croons "Ah-hoooooo-oo-oo-oo", here he goes "Oh oh yeah... Come on yeah... Everything's not lost" repeatedly.
"When you thought it was over,
You could feel it all around,
Everybody's out to get you,
Don't you let it drag you down." I also like Shiver on Parachutes which is a serious stalker song.
5. God Put A Smile Upon Your Face The third track on A Rush Of Blood To The Head is my 5th pick ahead of Amsterdam which is also great.
Its one of their faster songs with driving guitars, something different from all the piano and melancholy that is the rest of this album. Martin doesn't know where he's going or where to draw the line, but he's thankful nevertheless... cause God gave him style, grace and put a smile upon his face.
One look at the movie poster and you'll think of a few things - fun, laughter and a good time.
Yep, there's no doubt that this movie delivers its promise of humour. Audience will be treated to fast-paced, quick and smart humour that occurs all too often, you wouldn't even have time to get some with your girlfriend that is sitting next to you, without missing out on the moments of laughter. And of course, action.
Madagascar 2 continues of where the first instalment left off, this time our 4 muskateers decided that they had enough fun with all the little, furry native inhabitants of the island. Time to go back home to New York! Using a newly constructed plane (which was actually VERY faulty - it was a carcass of a plane that crash landed somewhere on the island), they decide to take it to the skies and return home in style.
Well, the moment they showed who the pilots were (the infamous four mafia-like penguins!), we knew that the fun had just began. Everything that could've went wrong, did went wrong and as a result, everybody crash landed in Africa. Home sweet home? Well, not quite. Our heroes are face with all kinds of difficulties, especially the eventual water shortage problem and it was up to Alex the lion and his band of makeshift commandos to save the day.
This movie bears a little resemblence to Lion King - in the modern day and with a rather somewhat more creative storyline. Jokes and crude moments certainly do not come up short in this movie, and sometimes you should pay attention to the little, minor details such as what was going in the background - it adds even more to the laugh factor.
In my opinion, what makes the show really entertaining was the role of lesser dominant characters such as King Julien (above) and his loyal entourage, the cute-in-a-mafia-way penguins and the rest of the herd in Africa. Yeah, I can't possibly name them all, right? No doubt, the main four characters are equally funny as well - each having their superstar voice-overs such as Ben Stiller, David Schwimmer, Chris Rock, Jada Pinkett Smith and many more! And uh, Borat also lent his voice in the movie as well - no points for guessing which one he played.
But then, although there were many good parts in the movie, it somehow left an empty, unsatisfied feeling for me. It's as though this movie is nearly there, but not quite there yet. Perhaps this movie was purely meant as a "feel good time" show, hence the lack of depth in an otherwise good storyline. Other than that, it was a pretty good one - they even have a moral of the story touch to it!
Verdict! Therefore, how do I rate this show? All I can say that while it was pretty interesting and funny, this was what I expected of it even before stepping into the cinema. It didn't really surprised with wow factors and somewhat bores me in certain scenes. Madagascar 2 also fails to leave an impact the way WALL.E did.
